Become a Minister of the Word of the Lord

The Liturgy of the Word is one of two main components, with the Liturgy of the Eucharist, of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. Lay ministers known as “lectors” proclaim the Word of the Lord in the First and Second Readings, as well as leading the Prayers of the Faithful (the Intercessions) after the homily and Nicene Creed. 

Consider joining the St. James lector ministry. Our task is to read the Word of the Lord at the ambo with a voice loud and clear enough to be heard and understood throughout the church. If you would like to join us, please contact Chris Dunford at [email protected] to learn more. One-on-one training is provided in a one-hour session in the empty church for both novice lectors and those with extensive experience in other parishes. Once trained, you would be assigned mutually agreed dates to read at the Mass of your choice.
