Love is something we know - and also don’t know. Love of spouse and
family is intimate – both simple and complex. We see a mother’s love for
her child and children’s love for elderly parents. Jesus gives us an example
of love in the parable of the “Good Samaritan“. God‘s love focuses on actively
doing something for someone in need. How do we love God with the
whole of our being? God is invisible – a mystery. God is love – let us love
one another because God is love. Love expands our hearts to include the
love of God – a love which grows and deepens and allows us to deal with
the challenges we encounter in our lives. The more we love others, the
more we are able to love God. Love of neighbor can lead us to a greater
love of God.
We are each invited to live the Beatitudes of Jesus. We are tireless
workers in the orchard of God. We do not have to be brilliant or rich to get
the mercy and love of God, but we do need to be open to receiving His gifts
of mercy and love. God recognizes all of our efforts to please Him. We
count in God‘s eyes. We are in the class of people God is searching for. We
are not born saints but we become saints by how we live our lives and how
we love.
